Safripol is a proud signatory of the CAIA Responsible Care Initiative, and we align to the Responsible Care Guiding Principles for continuous improvement in safety, health, environmental and security performance. CAIA held its 87th Annual General Meeting, Responsible Care® Report Launch and the 22nd Responsible Care® Awards Ceremony which took place at a special event in Sandton on 22 October 2025. The CAIA Responsible Care awards are important accolades for the industry as it highlights initiatives that goes above and beyond legal compliance, demonstrating leadership and competitiveness in the chemical’s industry.
Safripol was honoured with two prestigious awards at the event demonstrating our leadership and commitment to Responsible Care in the following categories i.e. 2025 CAIA Water award, and 2025 Responsible Care® Initiative of the Year Award – Corporate social responsibly (CSR) – Category A.
2025 CAIA Water Award: This award recognised Safripol’s HDPE plant Upgrade which involved integration of Hostalen bimodal technology, that has allowed us to expand capacity for increased production of pipe grade resin to support water security in the country. A major benefit of the upgrade is that our output of high-performance HDPE Impact 100® pipe resin has been significantly increased while maintaining the plant’s overall production capacity. Our optimised production supports water security initiatives across the country, while also reducing our participation in single-use plastic applications. Furthermore, the plant’s operational efficiency i.e. electricity and steam consumption as well as GHG emissions per ton of product has been significantly improved.
2025 Responsible Care® Initiative of the Year Award – Corporate social responsibly – Category A: Safripol partnered with three small businesses including Isphepho, Plant the Seed, and Indaloyami, to bring separation-at-source programmes to our community schools in Durban South and Sasolburg. The programme which provides schools with an end-to end waste management solution has reached over 94,000 learners across 109 schools this past year, diverting 436 tonnes of post-consumer waste that was previously destined for landfill. Additionally, with Safripol’s support, both buy-back centres, i.e. Isphepho and Indaloyami have being empowered to grow their recycling volumes and outputs. Through the YES Programme, 24 unemployed youth also gained work placements at Isphepho, with 6 securing permanent employment. This project demonstrates the power of partnership and aligns with our commitment to support the development of a circular economy in South Africa, while empowering youth to become environmentally conscientious citizens and drive positive behaviour change in their communities.
Safripol is proud of these prestigious awards as it demonstrates continuous improvement within our operations and our commitment to uplift the communities in which we operate. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our teams that are going above and beyond to ensure we are doing the right things every day to build a responsible and sustainable business.
