Safripol Brings Hope and Inspiration to Umbilo Secondary School

In the spirit of Mandela Day, Safripol donated much-needed durable polywood furniture to our fenceline school in Durban, Umbilo Secondary. The polywood furniture consisted of 40 two-seater school desks, 10 six-seater picnic tables and 3 benches, all produced by our partner and customer, Tufflex, using recycled polyolefins. This initiative not only focussed on enhancing the learning environment for the learners but also showcased an innovative and sustainable use of recycled plastics, reinforcing the value of plastics in everyday life. The initiative was met with heartfelt appreciation from both the school leadership and learners, paving the way for a lasting partnership.

In a letter of thanks, the school wrote:

“Safripol has truly epitomised the Mandela Day sentiment of service to those in need… The learners now truly have a space that is clean and comfortable to have lunch, relax and socialise. The difference is noted in the classrooms with the desks as well as on the playground. Our gratitude and appreciation know no bounds.”

A heartfelt thank you goes to our Durban volunteers who assisted with moving the furniture, to Unitrans for delivery logistics, and to Tufflex for partnering with us again this year to manufacture the polywood furniture, and for their kind donation of three polywood benches to the school. To date, Safripol has donated 153 polywood furniture items to our community schools in Durban and Sasolburg.

This is what collective action, and the Mandela spirit are all about.
