MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

BEng Electronic Engineering, or equivalent qualifications in the Process instrumentation field. Preferably a B-Tech qualification in Process Instrumentation. 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

5 Years Process Control and Instrumentation Experience in a Chemical/Industrial environment.

Must have experience interfacing different control systems, embedded in other technologies such as PLC to DCS via:

  • Profibus DP
  • DevicenNet
  • HART
  • PROFINET-CBA, PROFINET-IO,
  • EtherNet/IP,
  • Modbus/TCP,
  • FOUNDATION fieldbus
  • HSE

Experience in plant legislative requirements on Safety Instrumented Systems and associated equipment.

Experience in Yokogawa and Siemens control systems.

Computer Literate and knowledge of the following Control Systems:

  • advanced process control (APC)
  • distributed control systems (DCS)
  • programmable logic controllers (PLC)
  • supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).            

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a high integrity of the Instrumentation and Analyser Control systems through necessary upgrades and effective maintenance
  • Work with plant Production Leader and Run plant engineer to define appropriate, plant related, production reports, to be generated by the control system
  • Participates in developing Process Control Strategy Descriptions (PCSD’s) by applying plant knowledge and experience.
  • Develop Process Control code and operator interface graphics to meet design criteria defined in PCSD’s, utilizing the Process Control Discipline section and approved Process Control tools.
  • Develop simulation programs to test written code, operator interface, and provide a realistic demonstration of equipment start up, normal run and shutdown.
  • Complete the design and improvement of Instrumentation and Analyser Equipment. Complete the sizing and selection of instrument measurement and control elements, such as valves and Orifice plates.
  • Ensure the compliance of installation standards as per SANS codes for electronic and electrical equipment in Hazardous areas.
  • Conduct training for applicable personnel on assigned areas and equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate reviews are completed on assigned work as per MOC work process. Perform necessary changes/improvements to Process Control code and/or Operator interfaces as a result of RCI’s, utilizing MOC process.
  • Perform controller tuning when needed.
  • Drives in Instrumentation and Control Standards compliance and safety audits (HAZOP, LOPA and SIL.)
  • Provide expertise in troubleshooting areas of the instrumentation and control systems to assure minimum impact on plant operations.
  • Conduct regular audits of the Process Control System to insure proper safe operability. (LOPA checklist)
  • Recommend and participate in implementing improvements to the Instrumentation and Analyser system(s).
  • Ensure conformance to legal requirements with reference to ISO9002, 14000 and 18000 standards.
  • Coordinate Process information system maintenance with production.
  • Define Instrumentation and Analyser standards and ensure implementation thereof.
  • Configure & Maintain DCS historian. Coordinate the interface with other Process information systems, in order to share relevant information.
  • Utilize technological advance tools to improve plant and production efficiency.
  • Take part in and adhere to all safety driven programs.
  • Achieve Greenbelt Project leader status and be actively involved in Six Sigma.
  • Do standby according to set schedule and procedure.
