Who we are
Safripol (Pty) Ltd is an independent plastics manufacturing
company that supplies Polypropylene and High-density
Polyethylene to the converting industry, for the manufacture of
a wide range of packaging and industrial end uses.
Safripol is owned by ABSA Capital, Thebe
Investment Corporation and our management team. We have an effective
25.9 percent black economic empowerment BEE shareholding.
Our approximately 300 employees are based at our
manufacturing plant in Sasolburg with a small team at the
Headoffice in Bryanston. In addition to supplying larger
local converters directly we distribute our products through
Plastomark (PTY) Ltd.
Our History
Safripol was established in 1972 as a joint venture
between Hoechst SA and Sentrachem LTD. In 1997 it was purchased by
The Dow Chemical Company.
By late 2006 Dow’s strategy with regard to emerging markets had
changed, and the company was sold to a South African consortium
comprising ABSA Capital – the investment arm of SA’s largest
banking group – and the management team led by Joaquin Schoch.
The name Safripol was restored.
Our
Shareholders
The largest shareholder of Safripol is ABSA Capital, with
49 percent, The investment arm of South Africa’s largest banking
group, it is 10 percent owned by the black-empowered Batho Bonke
Consortium.
Thebe Investment Corporation is a diversified conglomerate with
holdings in a wide variety of sectors. On 1 July 2007 it
acquired a 21 percent shareholding in Safripol.
The management of Safripol hold the remaining 30 percent of the
equity.
Thebe’s involvement, together with the black empowerment
credentials of ABSA Capital, give Safripol an effective BEE
shareholding of 25.9 percent.
